From Tales of the Glimmerglass — an ancestral song carried
through the saga.
King Lan, he walked the morning wild,
seeking to find a human child—
one with no lust for power,
just a soul that would not cower.
But as he grew, As Lan would say,
“There is the man with the humble way.”
As years went on, he grew in smarts,
and grew more skilled at reading hearts.
His love for others, not for greed,
led the man to rise and lead.
And once again, As Lan would say,
“There is the man with the humble way.”
Others followed, one and all,
until they Kinged him in the fall.
His love for beast, for woman, for man,
kept safe the realm in his meek hand.
And once again, As Lan would say,
“There is the man with the humble way.”
Through years of peace and trial’s test,
He served his people at his best.
And when the days began to wane,
He called the young and spoke their name:
And once again, As Lan would say,
“Lead with the truth and the humble way.”
Then to the hall, his children came,
Each one he knew by heart and name.
He placed the crown in the gentlest hands,
And blessed the realm, its lakes and lands.
And once again, As Lan would say,
“I leave it now in your humble way.”
At dawn they found his chair was bare,
Yet felt his voice still in the air.
By fire and field, in work and play,
They live the truth he taught that day—
And once again, As Lan would say,
“There is the heart with the humble way.”
